Growing up, we always had large family meals – especially around holidays. As it was standard to have at least 2-3 desserts to choose from, it was common to hear my Grandmom Mullaney say “I’ll have a sliver of each” when it was time for dessert selections. We would all try to hold back our giggles at the table because there was no such thing as a “sliver” with her – it was always large pieces of pie or cake. And the phrase was usually then followed-up by “Diet tomorrow!” My family pulls out this phrase almost everytime the desserts appear at the end of a meal and we all end up having a good laugh remembering all the times we would snicker when she said it.
I am a 35 year old woman living in the philly burbs with my boyfriend, Robb, and our cat, Sophie. By day I work in the pharmaceutical advertising industry in account management. In my free time, I scour sites like foodgawker and read offline Culinary magazines. Some of my favorite mags are: Food Network, Cooks Illustrated, Food and Wine, and Bon Appetit!
I’ve been inspired by all of the blogs I see on foodgawker and thought “I could do that, too!”. Plus I work in the digital space during the day for my clients, so I think it’s great that I play in the online space in my spare time and have some fun with it!
Ok so when are we coming over for dinner….I want meatloaf and yorkshire pudding…mmmmmmm
So funny…I did not like meatloaf until I was in my twenties when your brother made it for me! ha
Laura…this is the best thing I have seen in a long time. I love your story about Grandmom’s apple pancakes. When Jerry and I were dating he would make them and tell stories about his Grandmom. So sweet. The cookbook your Mom did for everyone was a Great gift. Your Mom’s patio burger receipe has become a Carly and Johnny birthday tradition for my family. Who would of though FOOD the gift that keeps on giving. See you tonight. I will keep looking and maybe try and cook some of the receipes. Maybe you could give me a lesson or two! HA
Laura,
What a great site! I am totally stealing some of these recipes to cook for my family. I look forward to seeing more!
